Monaco, 15 December 2008: The main hall of the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco played host once again to the annual Motorsport Forum last week (10/11 December 2008). At its home in the Principality, A1 Team Monaco was proud to take part and exhibit its A1GP Powered by Ferrari car with key members of the squad available throughout the event to present the Team to international visitors.
 
“The Business of Success” was the event slogan and during its two-day run the Forum brought together a host of motorsport’s most influential decision makers. Teams, drivers, sponsors, organisers, promoters and circuit owners gathered at the event’s conferences and exhibition to explore networking opportunities and discuss new partnership deals under the seal of competitiveness, productivity and profitability.

Un week-end à oublier pour l’A1 Team Monaco

Au terme de ce 3e rendez-vous de la Coupe du Monde du Sport Automobile A1GP motorisée par Ferrari, qui s’est tenu ce week-end à Sepang en Malaisie, l’A1 Team Monaco s’est classé 12e de la course « Sprint » et a dû renoncer prématurément dans l’épreuve « Principale ». Une contre-performance qui repousse désormais l’équipe monégasque à la 12e place du championnat avec 9 points.

 

Le départ de la course « Sprint » du matin a été donné derrière la voiture de sécurité, après un incident peu banal ayant impliqué les équipes des Etats-Unis, du Brésil et de l’Inde, poussant finalement la direction de course à brandir le drapeau rouge. Nouvelle procédure, nouveau départ lancé, puis une course délicate pour Clivio Piccione, pilote et détenteur de la licence A1 Team Monaco, qui s’élançait de la 12e place sur la grille de départ.  Seule satisfaction pour le Monégasque, d’avoir effectué deux dépassements de toute beauté sur les équipes d’Indonésie et du Mexique, le reste restera une longue procession pour finalement pointer à l’arrivée en 12e position, avec un meilleur temps au tour de 1’50’’531. Au final, ce sont les vainqueurs 2007 et champions en titre, l’équipe de Suisse et son pilote Neel Jani, qui se sont imposés devant la France et la Nouvelle-Zélande.

Sepang, 23 November 2008: At round three of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport Powered by Ferrari, Team Monaco finished in 11th place in the Sprint race and was forced in to an early retirement from an incident filled Feature race at the Sepang International Circuit. Today’s results mean that Team Monaco now lies in 12th place in the championship with nine points and three Top Ten finishes.

 

The morning’s Sprint event saw the cars drive in formation towards the rolling start when an incident involving USA, Brazil and India brought out the red flag. A1 Team Monaco seat holder and driver Clivio Piccione, starting from 16th on the grid, drove a solid 11-laps race. He kept his head together as the single file re-start got underway and overtook Indonesia and Mexico midway through the race to take the chequered flag in 12th position with a best lap time of 1:50.531. 2007 race winners and reigning Champions Team Switzerland took the victory, with France and New Zealand in second and third places respectively.
